Studying Early Years as a Foundation degree has enabled Marta Weremkowicz-Wlosinska to deepen her knowledge of child development and move a step closer to her ambition of working as a Primary School teacher.
“Children are like little flowers – they won’t grow and flourish until they receive adequate love and care, and that’s exactly what I want for every child,” she says.
“Although I had successfully completed level 1, 2 and 3 courses in childcare at the College, I felt that I needed to gain a more in-depth understanding of child development to be able to make positive changes in children’s lives. Studying at HE level has given me a different perspective.
Marta decided to remain at the College for her foundation degree because her previous experience here had been extremely positive. She comments: “I would recommend the College to anyone who wants to study on a foundation degree. The teachers are fair and understanding, but at the same time, they expect a lot of you – and that’s reflected by well-organised classes and motivated students.
She admits that the most challenging aspect of studying at HE level has been learning how to write in an academic style. However she believes that the support offered to HE students is good. “The Learning Centre is well equipped with HE book collections, and the staff in the Centre have always been very helpful and friendly.” she says.
Marta is now ‘topping-up’ her Early Years qualification to a full Honours degree at the University of Greenwich while continuing to gain experience working in an Early Years setting.
