My experience as a young chef and apprentice has been very exciting. It has informed me on how things run in a kitchen and has definitely broadened my knowledge and skills.
As an apprentice not only do I gain the knowledge and experience but I also receive an income. At the start of an apprenticeship you can chose the units you want to do and also have your assessor visiting you once every two weeks to see you prepare, cook and present dishes.
My assessor has up to date skills about the industry and is very supportive in guiding me throughout the program. The assessor also monitors my progress and check if I am still enjoying my apprenticeship. I have also received a Level 3 food safety course that was delivered at the Southwark campus that was very informative and useful for my qualification.
I am now finishing my Level 2 apprenticeship and progressing into a level 3 apprenticeship with the college. After completing my level 3 I am aiming to go to university to do a business management degree and hopefully one day own my own Michelin star restaurant.
