Teaching

The CELTA course is a practical introduction to teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) and the certificate is awarded by Cambridge English which forms part of the University of Cambridge. Worldwide the CELTA is still the industry standard for teachers.

    Entry Requirements

    You will need to have a proficient level of English to begin the course. Usually applicants have completed qualifications in English but this may not be necessary depending on prior experience and knowledge which may suffice.

    Assessment Method

    The course includes: Teaching practice at Lewisham College and online Observation of qualified teachers- Written Assessments Detailed feedback with tutors Seminars Access to the Cambridge Moodle for core units and tasks' 120 hours of lessons (plus 80 hours of self-study)'

    CELTA is aimed at anyone who would like to start teaching English as a second or foreign language to adults. This could be as a new career to travel or both.

    Facilities

    There is a focus on communication and the communicative teaching approach learning through tasks. This is reflected in the tasks we ask our trainees to do in the classroom with their students and in the way that we train our course participants.There is lots of group work and discussion and creativity in designing activities for students.

    Career options on completion CELTA is aimed at anyone who would like to start teaching English as a second language as a new career to travel or for both. This course is also suitable for people who have some teaching experience but would like training and gain the CELTA qualification.

Coronavirus update

Lewisham College is closely monitoring all communications and guidance as it becomes available.
