Are you keen on pursuing a career in arts and design? The UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art Design and Communication gives students an in-depth introduction to the creative industries and a broad foundation of related knowledge skills and attributes associated with the creative process. The course is ideal for students who want to explore and experiment with various digital and analogue specialist practices within the creative industries (Y1) and then begin to specialise in fine art practice such as drawing painting photography printmaking or sculpture (Y2). The UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art Design and Communication will support learners in developing a portfolio of work enabling them to make applications to appropriate entry-level roles training programmes apprenticeships self-employment or higher education. This course consists of two separate qualifications. You will work towards the Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in your first year of study. Following successful completion of this qualification you will be able to progress to the Extended Diploma. Our extended diplomas offer equivalent UCAS points for studying at 3 A Levels.

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants will need 5 GCSE qualifications at grades A-C or 9-4 (preferably including a creative subject) and a portfolio of work presented at the interview. All applicants will have a review of their portfolio and ideally show some moderate success in the subject area. If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade 4 (the old Grade C) or above in Maths and/or English you will be allowed to develop your skills in these subjects. That will be a compulsory part of your timetable. GCSEs A-C or a Grade 9-4 (in 2017 GCSEs).

    Assessment Method

    You will be assessed by a combination of assignments course work observation of practical workshops and a final project.

    Aims of the course

    This exciting and innovative course will help you develop a range of creative art skills. It is designed to provide you with an opportunity to explore develop and test your creativity. This course will provide you with a sound base of skills and knowledge enhance self-confidence and give you an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within art and design. You will explore the materials methods and processes that support art and design activities. This course is designed to develop your knowledge technical skills and understanding for a rewarding career in a number of creative roles. The course helps you grow more than just your creativity expression and artistic skills; you will also gain a deeper understanding of the theories and principles of art and design including research methodology expression of thought justification of concept and product evaluation. Learning will be through practical activities and a project. You will be encouraged to explore experiment and experience a wide range of art and design methods to develop creativity and a professional approach to learning. Activities may include painting drawing illustration model making sculpture and printmaking.

    Progression Opportunities

    Successful learners will be equipped to enter a number of art and design-based roles. These could include product designers illustrators sculptors sketch artists digital designers architects 3D model makers animators independent artists painters interior decorators print designers and fashion branding roles. After successfully passing the First Year of Level 3 you may wish to consider one of the following Level 3 courses: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Fine Art) (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Production Art (UAL).

    To offer you the best experience we have assembled a team of industry-trained expert tutors and professional technical staff with lifelong industry knowledge and experience. Our courses are delivered in spacious state-of-the-art studios enjoying natural daylight from the adjoining Tressiliian road offering excellent inspiring views of Lewisham Way. We have a huge 90-seat theatre spacious dance and technical theatre studios rehearsal rooms computer editing suites recording studios and digital and traditional black-and-white photography-developing dark rooms. In addition you will participate in regular visits to galleries and museums and will receive the chance to exhibit your work at our exciting end-of-year show. All students are encouraged to develop a strong portfolio to progress to a higher-level course or job.

    Career Options

    Upon completion of this course you will be able to progress into higher education. If you want a career in the art and design industry we offer diverse vocational courses to help you get there. Our courses aim to train students in their chosen discipline; they include valuable work experience opportunities and the chance to exhibit your work preparing you for your first role in the industry. The Diploma in Creative Practice: Art Design and Communication (Level 3) Programme allows you to enter employment within a wide range of the creative arts sector. This course will enable you to enter employment within a wide range of junior art and design-based roles in the creative arts industries. Junior job roles include product designer illustrator sculptor sketch artist digital designer architect 3D model maker animator independent artist painter interior decorator print designer and fashion branding roles.
