Hair & Beauty

This course is ideal if you want to move into a supervisor or manager role in the beauty industry run your own business or work in spas health farms/clubs or cruise ship spas. This course covers advanced aspects of beauty treatments including a variety of massage techniques (Swedish and stone therapy) and face and body electrotherapy. We offer additional units to learners who require training in specific skills such as electrical epilation and Indian head massage (these units may incur costs). This advanced course covers the theoretical aspects of beauty therapy including anatomy and physiology to explore the structures and functions of all of the systems of the human body and how this relates to the practical aspects of beauty therapy. You will also cover units such as Managing Health & Safety in the Salon and Client Care and Communication. You will achieve a qualification accredited by the awarding body VTCT and add to your CV by attaining certificates from enrichment workshops delivered by external companies popular in the beauty and spa industry such as Eve Taylor advanced product knowledge Eve Taylor spa body wrapping treatments Mesotherapy/Laser treatments Caflon ear piercing and Steiner the on-board spa for career progression. (If you do not already have a grade C or above in GCSE English and maths you will automatically undertake further study in these subjects as part of your study programme.)

    Entry Requirements

    Entry requirements are as follows:- Four GCSEs (must include English) at grade A*-C/9-4- Level 2 qualification in a relevant vocational area (essential) You will meet with staff to discuss whether this course is suitable for you and we'll ask you to complete a free writing task to demonstrate an appropriate level of English ability. You may also be required to perform a trade test.

    Assessment Method

    There are three methods of assessment: practical observation (where you demonstrate your skills on clients) oral (where you answer questions on your underpinning knowledge of the skills); written (where you carry out independent research and complete an assignment and online exams). During the course you will build an e-portfolio of work and you'll receive training on how to use the latest technology to manage this. The programme is unit based and you will be assessed when you feel you are competent.If you are under 19 regular reports on your progress will be provided to you parents/guardians.

    Progression Opportunities

    While the main purpose of this qualification is to prepare you for employment as a senior beauty therapist you may choose to develop your skills further by taking a course in beauty therapy at level 4 such as the VTCT Level 4 in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments VTCT Level 4 Diploma in salon Management or VTCT Level 4 Diploma in advanced Beauty Therapy.You can also opt to complete additional units alongside your course such as electrical epilation and body electrotherapy.

    Facilities

    Practical skills are delivered by experienced industry experts using industry-recognised tools and products in our fully equipped salon. Our skilled teaching staff will utilise technology such as iPads and television viewing screens to support practical learning enabling you to view demonstrations and close-up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain realistic experience working on clients at our T'ien salon on campus. There will also be opportunities to venture out on educational visits and participate in professional training and workshops offered by external companies as well as competition work.In order to attend this course and achieve your qualification you will be required to purchase uniform and a special kit.     Career Options

    You will be qualified to work as a senior beauty therapist in a variety of contexts including holiday destination spas day spas and health farms/clubs; cruise ship on-board spas; aesthetic clinics; commercial salons and beauty retail/make-up counters/concessions. Or you may choose to work in a managerial role run your own business or work in product manufacturing and training.
