Health & Social Care

This course will further your knowledge in health and social care through a variety of topics including nutritional health psychology as well as equality and diversity in the workplace. There are four external assessments to be undertaken over the two years. You will be required to undertake a mandatory work placement as part of your course consisting of 100 hours each year. Work placements are ideally located in the Lewisham area or if you prefer you can source your own placement near to where you live (pending agreement from your Tutor that it meets the requirements of the course). Please note that work placement MUST be relevant to the health and social care sector. The work placement component will consolidate your vocational knowledge.

    Four GSCEs (any subjects) and grade 4 and above in English and Maths or equivalent.

    Aims of the course

    This course aims to develop and expand your learning from the Foundation Diploma and to help you to explore and develop your professional practice through your work placement. You will explore the human life stages identify professionals who work within the health and social care sector. As well as looking at the human body in more detail through the Anatomy and Physiology Unit and develop your research knowledge and skills from the Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care Unit. The course aims to equip you with greater knowledge skills and experience in the health and social care sector in order to prepare you for Higher Education and/or employment.

    Progression Opportunities

    Upon completion of this qualification you will be eligible to apply for Higher Education courses (so long as you have achieved the other entry criteria for your chosen course). Past learners have progressed to employment and/or to University to study: Nursing Midwifery Social Work Early Years Psychology Criminology and Teaching.

    Facilities

    The course is taught in a variety of ways including workshops seminars lectures guest speakers visits group work and presentations. Learners will have access to the College's online systems and facilities including Google resources Google Classroom and EMe to use both on and off site.

    Career Options

    You can also use this qualification for progression within your chosen profession (higher level professional responsibility within some settings) or to aid and support job applications in relevant health and social care settings.
