Lewisham College recently hosted an inspirational open day at the Lewisham Way campus, where Supported Learning students warmly welcomed young people, families, and learners from three different schools. The event was a unique opportunity to explore the educational offerings that set the Supported Learning programmes at Lewisham College apart.

During the open day, current learners, who have overcome various challenges and achieved remarkable success, shared their experiences. Their stories provided a glimpse into the transformative College experience. The event underscored the diverse courses and valuable work placement opportunities available, emphasising the supportive and inclusive environment at Lewisham College, where every learner can thrive and reach their full potential.

A major attraction of the event was the display of art pieces created by the supported learning students, highlighting their talent and creativity nurtured at the College. Attendees were not just spectators, but active participants in an interactive table-setting challenge, gaining a firsthand experience of the practical aspects of the College’s curriculum. This activity underscored the significance of life skills in the Supported Learning programme and provided a glimpse into the dynamic and comprehensive nature of the courses offered.

The open day celebrated the learners’ achievements and offered an opportunity for visitors to connect with both learners and the College’s community.

The Supported Learning teaching team emphasized the importance of the courses in the development of SEN students. They said: “Our courses are designed to help learners build not just academic skills, but also confidence, independence, communication skills, creativity, numeracy, and literacy. These skills are crucial for their personal development and continuous improvement.”

Michael, a shining example of the success of the Supported Learning programmes at Lewisham College, said: “Today's event is not just interesting, but it also offers visitors a glimpse into the transformative college life we experience, and the invaluable guidance and courses offered at Lewisham College.”
