Trainees studying Bricklaying, Plumbing and Painting and Decorating at Lewisham College’s Deptford Construction Campus took part in a qualifying competition in December 2020 for a chance to represent their course and College at the inter-college NCG Annual Skills Competition taking place later this year.
At the event the learners faced tough competition, carrying out skills-based tasks to secure a place in the finals of the inter-college NCG competition. Their work was presented to the judging panel who then selected the two top learners or apprentices for each discipline.

Painting and Decorating
1st Place: Yardenn Benharoosh
2nd Place: Zheng Kaixan
Plumbing
1st Place: Kamarleo Lawrence
2nd Place: Jamal Idris
Rob Lynch, Head of Faculty for Construction and Engineering, said: “We are proud of all the students who have competed for this opportunity and are very impressed with the level of application and skills they have displayed. We look forward to the Annual Skills Competition Finals later in 2021 and hope this experience will encourage our learners to take part in further skills-based competitions.”
Commenting on winning first place, Bricklaying student, Shaun Paul Wigzell, said: “Taking part in the competition was a great opportunity to experience working under pressure, to a deadline and to test my skills. I’m looking forward to participating in the NCG Annual Skills Competition to showcase all the knowledge and skills I’ve gained in my course.”
