Lewisham College’s Art & Design learners worked to produce the Look Now exhibition, hosted in the College’s art studios. Creative art pieces created by the learners were displayed and showcased for the College community, friends, and family to enjoy.
The learners incorporated their learning from the first term by selecting and presenting their artwork, considering how to share their work with an audience and working collaboratively to bring the exhibition together. The central theme was Look Now and encompassed the following themes as inspiration for the displayed artwork:
Visual Communication within Creative Practises, reflecting on how art has the power to communicate.
In My Own Words: Here and Now, utilising identity and the world around us as the backdrop for the creative process.
Play, in which learners considered how the idea of play could be used within either their materials or content.
The learners produced art in different formats, including drawings, paintings, graphics, textiles, game design, product design, and architecture, which formed part of their end-of-term assessment.
Adu Antwi, Head of Creative Arts at Lewisham College, said: “We are delighted our learners have been able to showcase their work and host the Look Now exhibition in the College’s studios. It gave learners great pride to showcase their skills and creativity to the College's community, friends and family.
This show allowed our learners to demonstrate their knowledge, talent, and what they learnt in this first term. The experience of creating an exhibition and displaying their work will help them to build on their creative techniques and prepare them for their next steps within the Creative Industries.”
Oceanne Seargo, Art & Design learner at Lewisham College, said: "For Play, I decided to make weapon cards, playing with cards is fun no matter what age you are. I experimented with a Japanese style for my cards. I took pictures of drawings I had completed inspired by amine and game art style, taking my sketches into Photoshop. I sourced fonts and edited these to fit my design work. I have experimented more technically with Photoshop, which has improved my practice, and as such, I could show my art style without feeling insecure.”
