ESOL adult learners at Lewisham College recently demonstrated their linguistic skills and competitive spirit in the annual Spelling Bee competition, organised by the ESOL department. Now in its third edition, the event continues to offer a fun, engaging, and supportive environment for learners to test and showcase their spelling abilities while boosting their confidence.
The competition featured participants across Entry 1 to Entry 3 levels, who were tasked with spelling a variety of words, ranging from simple four-letter words to more challenging terms.
Classroom heats were held to select the top spellers, who then advanced to the finals, which took place over a week in The Learning Centre. Those who were not competing made posters and cheered on their classmates. The event fostered a sense of excitement and friendly competition among the learners.
One of the primary goals of the Spelling Bee is to enhance learners' confidence in their language skills while creating a positive, engaging atmosphere. The ESOL department's thoughtful organisation of the event in multiple stages helped highlight the determination and linguistic progress of each participant, contributing to a supportive learning environment.
The event not only celebrated individual achievements but also fostered a sense of connection and accomplishment within the college community. The success of the competition further reinforced Lewisham College's commitment to providing meaningful learning experiences that inspire personal development and growth.
