Lewisham College’s Hospitality Hub recently worked with Springboard to host a dynamic and educational day for local learners. Groups from Forest Hill School and Ashcroft Academy were welcomed for hands-on workshops, insightful demonstrations, and career development activities aimed at inspiring young minds and providing them with valuable skills for their future careers.

The day started with a keynote speech from Principal Jamie Stevenson, who welcomed the learners and set the tone for an action-packed day. Selina Boshorin, Careers & Employability Delivery Manager at Springboard, also outlined the importance of developing skills and gaining industry insights at an early stage.

After the welcome speeches, the learners were split into groups and paired with one of our learner ambassadors, who guided them through a series of interactive workshops.

Learners were shown new cooking techniques from industry professionals at Baxter Story, explored the creative side of mixology with a Mocktail Masterclass with Night Cap and were introduced to the basics of brewing and intricacies of latte art with a Coffee Masterclass with Caffeine Ltd. Springboard also held a Guest Experience Workshop highlighting the importance of customer service within hospitality, whilst Sunderland University provided an employability workshop in which learners were given advice on enhancing their employability and preparing for the job market.

The day concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, during which the workshop hosts awarded prizes to learners who excelled in the workshops. The ceremony celebrated the learners’ hard work and enthusiasm and recognized their participation.

This event was an opportunity for learners to develop their practical skills, interact with industry professionals, gain real-world insights, and learn more about potential career paths within the hospitality sector.

We look forward to continuing to partner with local businesses and offering valuable experiences like these to the next generation of professionals.
