Lewisham College recently hosted a Learner Voice Training Day designed to equip Class Reps, Student Ambassadors and volunteers with the knowledge and confidence they need to represent their peers and have their voices heard. The event was packed with insightful training, inspiring discussions, and opportunities for learners to forge new connections.
The day started with a warm welcome from the college Principal, Jamie Stevenson, who thanked the learners for stepping up to take on the important roles of Class Representatives and Student Ambassadors.
Following the opening presentation, the Class Reps Training Summit began. This interactive session offered participants an overview of the role, focusing on leadership skills, effective communication, and how to provide constructive feedback to the College on behalf of their peers. Learners engaged in lively group discussions, where they shared their ideas and aspirations for their roles. The training also created an opportunity for learners to connect with one another and form lasting friendships, building a strong sense of community within the college.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the Student Ambassador Training Conference, which highlighted the responsibilities of the role and the key part they will play in representing the college to external visitors, volunteering in college departments and taking part in focus groups. Activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and public speaking were incorporated, ensuring the ambassadors are fully prepared for their new roles.
This training workshop gave the learners the chance to enhance their leadership abilities and transferable skills which will help them in their future careers, as well as contributing to the ongoing development of Lewisham College.
