ESOL adult learners at Lewisham College showcased their linguistic skills and competitive spirit in the annual Spelling Bee competition organised by the ESOL department. The competition, introduced as a fun and exciting way for learners to learn in a competitive and focused environment, proved to be a rewarding experience for both the participants and the attendees.
The event featured participants from Entry 1 to Entry 3 levels. The learners were tasked with spelling 4-letter words, an activity that ignited enthusiasm and concentration among the participants.
One key goal of the competition was to boost confidence among the learners and create a positive learning atmosphere. The ESOL department's effort to organise the competition in various stages highlighted the participants' determination and linguistic abilities, fostering a positive and encouraging learning environment.
This year's winners are:

Entry 2 - Katia Rodriguez and Arlinda De Jesus Fernandez
Entry 3 - Eftu Jaleta
The learners' hard work and dedication were recognised at an awards ceremony, where they received voucher prizes and certificates, underscoring the value of their achievements.
During the event, Bakhan Ali, an ESOL student at Lewisham College, emphasised the profound impact of such events on the adult student community. He said, "The Spelling Bee competition inspired us to work hard for improvement, making us more competitive and contributing to our personal development and confidence in our English skills."
