Lewisham College hosted its annual Maths Challenge at its Lewisham Way campus, organised by the College's maths department and designed to encourage learners to recognise and gain an appreciation of the subject.
The challenge saw more than 90 learners from various subject areas go head-to-head for a place in the final. After a tough competition and a display of excellent mathematical skills, five finalists were selected to compete for first place. They carried out various exercises at different levels of difficulty, from entry-level to GCSE, including Algebraic reasoning.
The results on the day were as follows:
First place: Aymen Hamdaoui
Second place: Giada Lena D’Innocenzo
Third place: Zhenhui Han
Runner up: Nassima Hammaci
Runner up: Cuong Duy Chau
The winners were presented with trophies by Gerard Garvey, Principal at Lewisham College, who congratulated every learner for their performance in the competition. He said: "It was a pleasure to see so many of our learners testing their maths skills in this exciting and fun challenge, especially the finalists who were focused and composed during the competition and displayed great mathematical skills.
“I would like to congratulate all participants for all their hard work and enthusiasm in the subject. I look forward to seeing more learners engaging with maths and participating in the next challenge."
