Lewisham College welcomed back Loud Speaker to deliver their brilliant ‘Game of Life’ workshop as part of the College’s Induction Week activities to kick start the new academic year. The sessions sponsored by City & Guilds, gave new and returning learners the opportunity to engage in confidence-boosting workshops to develop skills that will carry them through their college life and beyond.

Motivational speakers, Matt Powell and Rich Allen-Campbell delivered the workshops, focusing on how young people can use their stories, their failures, their challenges and their passions to go out and do something that they really care about in the future. All aimed at providing a transformative journey to equip learners with the skills to turn nerves into self-belief.

Matt Powell, Engagement Manager at Loud Speaker, said: "Lewisham College is so brilliant. The young people are great. They got really engaged, they asked questions, they stood up in front of everybody, a room of 180 people, and told their stories which I thought was so incredible. These young people are set for life, they’re going to do some great things.”

Leon Johnson, a Catering and Hospitality Level 1 learner at Lewisham College attended the workshop. He said: “The workshop wasn’t just interesting, it was eye-opening. It was fun to get involved in the activities, and it taught me new ways to boost my confidence. One thing that really stuck with me is the idea that setbacks are just part of the journey, you must keep pushing, keep working, and eventually you’ll get to where you want to be.”

Jamie Stevenson, Principal at Lewisham College, said: “At Lewisham College, we believe in empowering our learners with the confidence and skills they need to navigate their academic journey and the next steps in their chosen careers. The Loud Speaker workshops are a fantastic way to help them realise their potential, encouraging them to turn setbacks into opportunities. It’s been amazing to see how much our learners have embraced this experience, and I’m confident it will empower them as they continue their journey with us and beyond.”

Loud Speaker’s mission is to deliver sessions and workshops supporting young people to instil vital speaking skills, boost confidence and create an atmosphere filled with energy and fun. The workshops will take place across the seven colleges across NCG over upcoming months, made possible by City & Guilds sponsoring the sessions.
